Made separately at three Yarra Valley wineries (Oakridge, Yering Station and Hoddles Creek Estate) before being blended, it's a pretty cool wine. With interesting aromas of white peach, melon, spice and oatmeal, it's silky smooth, with a nice line of acidity and super-fine tannins, that carry complex flavours of grapefruit, lemon, fig and hazelnut around the mouth. It's a polished and rather subtle wine that's best drunk at room temperatures (like many whites) to get the most out of it.

The classic Yarra Valley expression of citrus and peach here, nicely met with some savoury, nutty winemaking and oak influence to add handy complexity to the mix. The palate's smoothly textured and delivers lovely fresh fruit flavour and bright, crunchy acidity, balanced and even. Great-value drinking. Rating 92.

Full bodied and full on but with vibrancy to match. The worked style is rounded and cuddly with flavours of flint, peach, melon, gun smoke and roasted nuts. The creamy palate is fresh yet textured and would work brilliantly with any French style dish in the heart of winter. At 26 bucks this sits about right, especially if you want masses of texture thrown in.

This is a surprise packet that punches above its low $20 range price tag. White peaches, some lemon citrus and nutty lees and French oak aromas merge into a fascinating nose. The palate has a burst of the mentioned aromas but has a creamy fulfilling mouth feel, with great structure. It will develop intensity and complexity with cellaring for 3-4 years, but is a treat to drink now with thyme-infused roasted poussin.

The bottom rung of Toolangi's chardonnay ladder is good value, reflecting the enviable pedigree of this Yarra Valley estate. The 2010 has stone fruit, grapefruit and creamy chardonnay aromas woven through subtle oak, and the medium-bodied palate is soft and finely poised, finishing long and smooth. Four Stars.

The 2010 vintage produced some superb Yarra Valley chardonnays – and this is up there with the best when it comes to quality and value. Hand-picked fruit has been aged in oak barriques for 10 months to produce a wine that oozes class and drinkability. Some of the Yarra's best winemakers had a hand in producing a wine that is beautifully constructed; lean and well-balanced with just enough meat on its bones. Lovely stuff.

This wine was made at three wineries, namely Yering Station, Oakridge and Hoddles Creek Estate. It was aged for 10 months in oak and then put together and bottled at Yering Station. Complex logistics by the sounds. The flavours here are safe and sound. Inviting and easy to like. Peach, green melon and cashew, preserved lemon and subtle toast/oak-spice. Has a subtle waxy/briny element in the background. Comes up very nicely in the glass; benefits greatly from being decanted. If I saw this on a wine list I'd be tempted to order it.

Youthful on one hand, showing off maturity beyond its years in others. Vibrant tangy citrusy as well as classy nectarine. Lightly creamy and drinkable yet with an underpinning elegance. I like the way the oak sits with fruit, balanced and poised and showing respect for one another. Deep flavoursome and long on the finish, an excellent Chardonnay with something for everyone. Try it with lamb, spinach and potato curry. Drink to 2014. 93/100 – Excellent.
