We acquired and planted our property in the Yarra Valley in 1995 and welcomed the first vintage of Toolangi in 2000. Now in our 13th year of producing wines, our focus continues to be the production of exemplary wines. Our highly regarded wines are a tribute to a great vineyard site and our passionate winemakers.
Garry and Julie Hounsell
Four Toolangi wines are rated above 92 points in the latest Good Wine Guide 2013, and our 2008 Reserve Chardonnay sits in the Best of the Best category.
"A breathtaking chardonnay - symphonic!"
"A very bright, almost electric green-tinged gold colour, this has immense concentration. Taken from the most select section of the Toolangi vineyard, it offers citrus-soaked nectarine and white peach, with a decent serve of complex oak toast and spice. The palate's a powerhouse, showing weight and concentration with powerful structure, lemon and peach flavour. Acidity good, texture impeccable. A breathtaking chardonnay - symphonic!" Nick Stock

"Beautifully balanced, this wine opens with white peach, lemon and a smoky whiff of nutty background oak. Poised and rich, it has silky texture and a lingering vibrant finish. Ageing? Drink over three years. Food Ideas: Salmon; fried scallops."
"Garry and Julie Hounsell bought and planted their Dixon Creek vineyard in 1995 but outsource their winemaking – in this instance, to one of Australia’s cutting-edge pinot makers, David Bicknell of Oakridge Wines. In short, it’s a classy double act – the beautiful fruit captured in great detail by Bicknell. The wine is limpid, highly perfumed and over several days on the tasting bench became increasingly lovely to drink. The intense flavour and fine, silky texture make it a pinot to savour, drop by drop. It should age well for another five or six years." - Chris Shanahan
